Pentwater PARK PLACE

Community: Village of Pentwater
Population: Under 6,000

Presenting: Park Place

Originally built as a DPW garage, our quaint building was transformed into the Friendship Center in the 1980’s for our Village residents. After 30 wonderful years of use it was time for a makeover.

The community center, now named Park Place, was redesigned for multiple uses with different areas to accommodate various functions, including a business center for meetings, a flex area banquets and social activities and a cozy living room for relaxing. Our newly renovated center is now home to bingo, line dancing, chair yoga, euchre, book club gatherings and knitting groups. Park Place has also been the host of wedding receptions, baby showers, school dances and countless meetings.

Park Place truly defines “Sense of Place”. This project is a fine example of how small communities can achieve great success with the dedication of our constituents, governing body and community volunteerism.

Replicability:

YES, Multi use function is key to small communities. we get to have BIG in a small box

Creativity and Originality:

This rehab of an existing under used community center has brought in state of the art mutli-media technology for the pubic, a flex area to gather for "sense of place" space. The main area added space for social functions. Historic art work and casual cottage decor accent who we are as a community. minimal funding and a generous volunteer base made this possible

Community Impact:

Meeting facility, along with community center. a minor millage along with the user pay revenue stream is a ZERO impact on our general fund. Because we use this for our council chamber, it was important to give our public a facility to use 29 days of the month and we use it twice for our meeting.
